Dentures in Hudson, MA

Dentures are appliances used to replace multiple missing teeth or all teeth in an arch from either the maxillary or the mandibular jaw. Depending on the missing teeth, patients may opt to have complete dentures, partial dentures, or implant-supported dentures. At Restoration Smiles: Adult & Pediatric Dentistry, we have complete dentures custom-fabricated to fit entirely over the mouth's arch. In contrast, we have partial dentures fabricated to fit among the remaining teeth and are held in place by a metal framework with a gum-colored base that matches the color of your gums. Lastly, we offer implant-supported dentures as the restoration that can provide the most support and stability as they’re permanently attached to the jawbone with the help of dental implants. These small titanium posts act as tooth roots for secure attachment.

Types of Dentures

Partial Dentures

These replace some teeth, but not all. They are held in place with clips or brackets and can be removed by the patient at any time.

Complete Dentures

These replace all teeth on one or both arches. They usually consist of a base supporting and securing the denture and a plate fitted over the gums. A metal frame may also be added to the base to secure the denture to the mouth. In some cases, tissue may be needed to position a complete denture properly.

The Procedure for Dentures

First, the dentist takes impressions of your teeth so that your dentures fit comfortably in your mouth. Then, based on these impressions, your dentures are fabricated using materials that you prefer. During this process, your dentist will also adjust the color and shape of your artificial teeth. Once the dentures are finished, we will invite you to come to our office so we can make sure that they fit perfectly!

The Benefits of Dentures

When a patient loses all of their natural teeth, it is essential to replace the missing teeth so the patient can resume eating and speaking properly. Without teeth, patients can also experience bone loss because the roots of the teeth are no longer present to stimulate the jawbone and keep it strong and healthy. If too much time passes after the failure of all teeth, a patient may need to have their mouth completely reconstructed to restore proper function and aesthetics. Full or partial dentures are a standard solution to replace all teeth in the upper or lower arch.

Caring for Your Dentures

Dentures require regular cleaning and maintenance to ensure they continue to fit correctly and do not stain. Patients should also make sure they are making regularly scheduled appointments with our dentist for checkups and cleanings.
